Pipe and Tube Cutting Technologies

With advancements in technology, the lines have become blurred between the most advantageous process to cut and chamfer a given pipe or tube.

While circular saws have improved, so have ring saws where the tube is either fixed or rotates.

Meanwhile laser cutting and chamfering has improved dramatically. This process is no longer relegated to thin walled tubes but is now regularly used on pipes of 12 inch diameter with accompanying thick walls.

Modern laser cutting facilitates directly creating a chamfer which eliminates that additional step needed with mechanical parting.

While ring saws are well adapted to circular pipes and tubes they obviously are not a match for square, odd shaped forms or I-beams. These call for circular saws or lasers.

My point is, when looking at an application, it is advantageous to review all solutions, not just the ones employed in the past.

As a supplier of various technologies from several OEMs, HEIKO does just that – develop multiple solutions for evaluation.
